April and Clint played
all day under the sprinkler in the front yard. Dianna
called them in for supper and had them remove their wet
shorts and shirts that Dianna had made for them at the
porch.
Their meal was a simple
one, some okra from the garden, the bisquets from scratch
with muscadine jelly that Dianna had made last fall, and
rabbit left over from Sunday's dinner.
The children ate and
laughed recalling all the different things that you can
play under a sprinkler and who was best at which game.
When the dishes were
done, it was well past dark, and Dianna went out to pick
up the plastic toys that were left by the sprinkler. She
liked this home, but the job Ray had was not paying enough.
He would hunt and help with the garden just to keep them
in groceries.
As she gazed up, she
made a wish on a beautiful golden star. Please, just a
little more money to feed and clothe my kids, so they
can be strong and healthy. When she looked back at the
road, Ray pulled up in his truck and grinned! "Dianna,
we are going back, I've got a great job close to home,
it came through today!" Ray explained excitedly.
"And that's not all, we will be living rent free,
so there will be extra money."
Dianna looked back
up at the twinkling golden star and wondered why she hadn't
made a wish sooner. The move would be great, her children
would be going to school in a good district, and it would
be close to their grandparents. Love filled her eyes and
a tiny golden glinted tear fell to her cheek.
