I Can Fly

John had been to the mailbox three times already that day. It had already been two weeks, and he was sure today he would get the ACT scores. He took his dog Ginny out each time, thinking this might bring him some luck. Ginny barked down the road at the familiar red truck that would deliver the mail. Finally, the postman handed John the mail, pushed Ginny off the truck and said: "have a nice day". John shouted to Ginny to come, and headed to the house looking through the few pieces of mail. This was not the day, no mail for John, just the usual grocery flyer and a water bill, along with an application for a super platinum visa card.

The test had been so long and hard. John sat staring at each question, hoping that he was reading the question correctly. His Mom had told him, you're a hunter in a farmer's world John, you do things differently, and you will have to learn to do both. He knew this was her way of making him feel more confident That night John went out on the balcony off his room, and gazed at the stars. A blue colored star caught his eye and he decided to make a wish. Feeling awkward, he wished for success on the test.

Saturday morning came, and John was not even awake, when Ginny bounded up the stairs. She jumped on his bed and licked his face when he noticed that in her collar she had a letter. He bolted upright, petted her head and removed the envelope. He thought it looked blue, but it was only a white envelope. Opening the letter, he stared at the final result. Success, he had scored over 32, his dreams of scholarship and college where within his reach.

He pulled Ginny up close, hugged her neck and ran down the stairs with his letter in his hand. "Mom, I did it, I'm going to have it all, I think I should be thanking my lucky stars!" His Mom smiled and gave him a hug, "I always knew you could John, you are my shining star!"
