Danny's Song

Dolores and John were married young; they wanted a house full of children to share their love. After four years of trying to conceive, doctor's visits and tests, they sat in the lawyer's office discussing adoption. We will have to submit the request, have a home study and then wait for an infant to become available the lawyer advised. John looked into Dolores's eyes and confirmed his commitment to the process.

Everything went just fine; they were an ideal couple, with an established home. Mrs. Green was assigned as the caseworker, and the waiting for a child began.

Mrs. Green called and told them a child may be available, but it wasn't an infant and asked if they wanted to be considered. Dolores asked the usual questions, boy or girl? Girl, but she has been abandoned and was now a ward of the court living at the Lake Bluff Orphanage. John squeezed Dolores's hand and said a daughter would be wonderful. How old? She is two now, a little small for her age. Her health? She doesn't speak yet, but we did check her hearing, and it is fine, she seems very bright.

Making her life complete with children was Dolores's wish for happiness. She had wished on every star she saw, night after night. That night when she looked at the stars; one especially purple star caught her eye. She wished for the happiness that the little girl could bring to their home.

The car pulled up in the drive, Mrs. Green and a small little girl dressed in purple clutching a tattered rag doll walked to the front door. John and Dolores beamed with happiness.
