Amazing Grace

The weight of the world was on her shoulders, the problems were compounding daily. Connie didn't seem to have another place to look to find solutions. Her thoughts were very sad, she had lost all hope.

Connie packed up her Pinto with a change of clothes, a letter to her sister and a bag of croutons. She wasn't sure where she was going at 5am, but she was sure she would know when she arrived. The morning star twinkled a pale yellow and she wished she had answers. She drove for 3 hours off the expressway and down an old country road until she reached a small park with a lake.

She saw the ducks and thought, oh, I have croutons, how odd, and she grabbed the bag and headed down toward the lake to feed the ducks. A little boy was skipping rocks near by, but it didn't seem to disturb the ducks from greedily looking for another crouton. Connie watched the little boy, and noticed his face would seem to get a look of great determination each time he picked up a rock, but then a smile came to his face when he released the rock.

She smiled at the little boy who couldn't have been more than 5 years old. He came over to her with a rock in his hand. Why do you have that look on your face lady, you look sad? Connie tried not to burst into tears at the child's honest question. Oh I'm just worried about some things Connie replied. Then you need this rock, said the boy. Take it and squeeze all your worries into the rock, and just throw it away, then God takes care of them.

Ten rocks later Connie was feeling better and actually laughed when one of her rocks skipped across the water 4 times. She asked the little boy, what worried you that you were throwing rocks? My Mommy went into the hospital today, she, he paused, she had lots of worries, so I was helping her throw them away. Understanding grew in Connie's heart, and a new faith took root as a glimmer of yellow light danced on the water.
